Health and Social Care

The Health and Social Care curriculum at key stage 4 follows the BTEC Tech Award Health and Social Care suite offered by Edexcel. The qualification has been developed to give pupils the opportunity to study a vocational area as part of their curriculum. Pupils will acquire sector-specific applied knowledge by studying human lifespan development, health and social care services and values, and health and wellbeing as part of their key stage 4 learning. This will enable them to build applied knowledge and skills that show an aptitude for further learning, both in the sector and more widely.

The qualification comprises of three components in the qualification, two of which are coursework based and one external synoptic examination unit. The components are interrelated and they are best seen as part of an integrated whole rather than as totally distinct study areas.

At key stage 5, the Health and Social Care curriculum follows the Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care. It has been developed to give students  the opportunity to study a vocational area as part of their curriculum. Students will acquire sector-specific applied knowledge to prepare them for the sector.  The intent is for our students to develop their analytical thinking, critical consideration of a range of sector-based topics, ultimately encouraging the independent cognitive ability that is necessary for post 18 opportunities.

Students will develop knowledge and understanding of human lifespan development, working in health and social care, meeting individual care and support needs and sociological perspectives. This will enable them to build applied knowledge and skills that show an aptitude for further learning, both in the sector and more widely.

The qualification comprises of four units, two of which are coursework based and two external  examination units. The units are interrelated, and they are best seen as part of an integrated whole rather than as totally distinct study areas.
