Formation
Belonging to BTH is also an invitation to journey in faith. As a Catholic college our weekly timetable provides space to encounter God’s word and to be guided by it. Catholic social teaching permeates everything we do as a community and the dignity and well-being of the whole person is cared for. Striving for excellence educationally whilst also providing strong pastoral support and spiritual guidance. We look to form young adults confident to share their gifts in the world and make a difference for good.
Our college is inclusive to all faiths and beliefs. The BTH way is to know God’s love and to walk with kindness. Our Catholic faith is practiced and celebrated throughout the school day and part of the weekly timetable for all our students.
This includes -
- We start the day with a morning offering and end the day with a blessing.
- Each form group is assigned to a house with a special patronage to a Saint. The school year follows the seasons of the churches calendar punctuated with celebrations for the house saint feast days including termly whole school Masses for communion.
- Celebration of the Word takes place for year 12 on a Tuesday morning and for year 12 Wednesday.
- An hour of Core RE to explore the Catholic faith is a weekly requirement for all students of KS5.
Voluntary Formation enrichment outside of the set timetable see below.
Sixth formers are role models for lower school and lead our main Christmas and Easter fundraisers events supporting CAFOD and our local charity Caritas.
Other weekly opportunities at BTH are:
- Mass every Friday
- Wednesday Word - morning prayer for staff and students
- Rosary Club

Lunchtime activities that build our college community:
- Cookie Club – A chance to get to know other students
- Take Ten Tuesday
- Game Friday

Take ten is new to the college. The chaplaincy team are available in the sixth form cafe to pray with students and to ask what they need prayer for. God meets with us in the details of our lives and we offer the intercessions written down at our weekly mass.
