Our Aims

The Purpose of Brilliant BTH

The programme serves three key purposes:

1. Academic Enrichment
You'll engage with subjects beyond the national curriculum, exploring topics that fascinate you through independent research and expert-led tutorials.

2. Skills Development
You'll develop the transferable skills essential for university success and beyond – from academic research and essay writing to public speaking and critical thinking.

3. University Preparation
The programme raises aspirations to continue academic excellence through to university, including Russell Group and Oxbridge universities, and supports students to achieve their full potential at KS3, 4 and 5.

At Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College, the Brilliant BTH Programme exists to unlock the potential of our most academically able students, and embodies our core school values at every level:

Be Kind
Through mentoring relationships, collaborative research, and celebrating each other's achievements, Brilliant BTH students demonstrate kindness and support within our academic community. Staff and Year 12 mentors guide younger students with patience and encouragement, while students learn to give and receive constructive feedback with respect and empathy.

Work Hard
The programme challenges students to push beyond their comfort zones – from conducting independent research, to designing creative pieces of art or technology, to writing 2000-word university-style essays. Students develop resilience, time management, and the determination needed to achieve academic excellence. Hard work is celebrated through our presentation events and graduation ceremonies.

Develop My Whole Self
Brilliant BTH isn't just about academic achievement. Students develop as confident public speakers, creative and critical thinkers, leaders, and independent learners. Through university visits, skills workshops, and mentoring opportunities, students grow intellectually, socially, and personally – preparing them not just for exams, but for life beyond school.
