At Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College Sixth Form, students are offered a study programme that is tailored to their individual needs and aspirations. Students choose at least three A level (or equivalent) subjects and some students are able to choose four A-levels, if this is deemed suitable. In addition, students are offered Core Mathematics and the Extended Project Qualification to enhance our broad and balanced curriculum. We constantly keep our Sixth Form courses under review to ensure that it matches students' aspirations and interests. The majority of our Sixth Form Students have their core aim as academic qualifications i.e. A Level subjects with a small number following an applied qualifications core aim i.e., BTEC Level 3. All of our students have full time study programmes.
The Sixth Form study programmes also include a substantial amount of non-qualification activity, including Core Religious Education, our Personal Development and Enrichment programme, regular assemblies, work experience opportunities and study skills. Students are encouraged to take part in a range of activities which complement the other elements of the programme and supports applications for higher education, apprenticeships or employment. Students can undertake a wide range of accredited and non-accredited enrichment activities, including the Level 3 EPQ, DofE, debating, charity and volunteer work. As well as this, our students have a weekly Tutorial lesson delivered by their Tutors, which covers essential material on personal development, careers, finance and mental health.
We provide an ongoing programme of work-related opportunities such as the annual Careers and Higher Education Fair, industry-specific career talks, Higher Education briefings and university masterclasses. Students have a number of next-step and careers events throughout Years 12 and 13 as well as an appointment with our independent Careers Advisor. All students take part in a fortnight of work experience in the July of Year 12 in order to help better prepare them for the world of work.
We are constantly reviewing and evaluating the quality of our Sixth Form experience to ensure that it meets the needs of our students. Our goal is to ensure that all students leave Sixth Form with not only the qualifications and skills that they need to progress to the next stage, but also the information they need to make informed decisions about their future.
