Dear Parent / Carer

I wanted to extend a big thank you to each and every one of you for the support you have given to the Sixth Form over this past year. I am sure you will agree that the students have matured into exceptional young men and women, some almost unrecognisable from the people they were at the start of the year. Your role in supporting your son/daughter during their time in Sixth Form continues to play a crucial part in their success so please continue to keep in touch with us if there is anything you need to discuss.

Please find your child's Summer examination timetable at the link above. This includes any resit examinations from the January series. The AS examination series runs from Monday 13th May until Friday 7th June inclusive. Morning examinations start promptly at 9am and afternoon examinations at 1pm and students are to be in full Sixth Form dress during these weeks. Some exams have different start times due to a clash with students' examinations. The Half Term holiday is from Monday 27th – Friday 31st May. Year 12 students return to the Sixth Form from Monday 10th June until Friday 5th July to begin their Year 13 studies and the UCAS process. The end of Term Mass will be celebrated at 3pm on Friday 21st June and all Year 12 and 13 students are expected to attend. From Monday 8th July until Friday 19th July students complete their 2–week Work Experience placement. Student return to Sixth Form for the final 2 days of Term Monday 22nd July finishing at lunchtime on Tuesday 23rd July 2013.

During these examination weeks students are expected to attend the examinations they are entered for plus all usual classes until all examinations/coursework is completed for that subject. Students who study BTEC Creative Media Productions and/or BTEC Art & Design and/or Sport will attend all these lessons as usual until their final deadline is reached (other than when they clash with an examination) due to these courses being 100% coursework based. Students are not required to attend Sixth Form at other times during these weeks although are welcome to if they wish to. Students may also choose to dine off the premises should they chose to. For health and safety reasons it is essential students sign in and out at the Sixth Form Reception each time they enter and leave the building.

We want to ensure that all students have access to the resources and support that can help that at this very important and busy time. If, in addition to usual lessons and additional revision lessons and materials, your son/daughter would like any additional individual support they should email their subject teachers or Form Tutor to request this as soon as possible. On our Sixth Form website there is also the Online Classrooms where links to various helpful resources and ideas to stretch and challenge themselves can be found for each subject area.

There are also many resources available to students online either on Edmodo or the school network. In addition, the Study Centre will be open daily from 8am until 4pm and the cafe will continue to be open daily from 7.30am until 5.45pm.

The end of term arrangements is that students will be dismissed at 12.30pm on Tuesday 23rd July 2013. This will be an 'own clothes day' at no cost as a thank you for all your support with fundraising this year.

Students will be able to collect their AS results and enrol into Year 13 on Thursday 15th August from 10am – 12pm. Anyone student wanting someone else to collect their results on this day must provide written authorisation from themself which should be presented to Miss Connaughton on the day. Any results not collected on 15th August will be posted home. If a student is away at this time so cannot enrol they should contact Miss Connaughton via email (see contact details below) once results are known to arrange another time to enrol into Year 13.

The start of term for Year 13 commences on Tuesday 3rd September 2013 at 8.55am.

May I also draw your attention to our Dress Code that clearly states the standard of personal appearance we expect of all our Sixth Form students. They have adhered to this throughout Year 12 so we do not anticipate any issues next year. When purchasing new items it will be worth refreshing your memory of what is acceptable attire. The dress code is available on the Sixth Form website at the link below.

We in the Art department have had the pleasure of embarking on an artistic journey with an artist by the name of Lucy Burscough. Our artistic aims were in relation to her award–winning focus on people in obscured styles of portraits in an attempt to promote the fight against stigma attached to mental health issues.

Although obscured, these portraits are painted in a photographic and realistic style. This took us out of our comfort zone as we were set the task of painting ourselves on a one–metre canvas in the style of Lucy's work.

From this experience we have learnt how to improve our artwork through using varying techniques and styles.

Overall, this has been a very educational and enriching experience culminating in our inclusion in an exhibition at Local Creation in Altrincham town centre on the 24th May 2013.
